Our Mission Statement

St. John’s Nursery School seeks to provide a fun, safe, loving and Christian environment where children can learn and grow through exploration. We are concerned with all aspects of each child’s development: intellectual, physical social and emotional. We seek to nurture each child’s inborn gifts and abilities as well as give him/her the opportunity to experience new ideas. We are aware that each child is unique and we want to encourage each child to believe in his/herself.

Curriculum

Our 3 year old program focuses primarily on socialization, separation form the caregiver, fine and gross motor skills, developing their language skills, an introduction to basic colors, shapes and concepts, sharing, taking turns, listening, following simple directions, developing eye-hand coordination through music and stories.

Three letters, one color, one number, and a shape are taught each month. Children will also make projects for most of the holidays as well as letter projects. A music teacher comes in once a week for 30 minutes to teach songs to the children.

Our 4 year old program will continue to develop fine and gross motor skills, language skills, sharing, listening, following directions, reviewing their colors and shapes, numbers, the alphabet, name recognition, writing, and eye-hand coordination.

Three letters, two colors, one number, and a shape are taught each month. Children will also make projects for most of the holidays as well as letter projects. A music teacher comes in once a week for 45 minutes to teach songs to the children.

A typical day will consist of circle time, the Pledge of Allegiance, prayer, calendar, weather, free play, seasonal and letter projects, fine and gross motor activities, show & tell, story time, music and of course snack time.

Special Events

In the fall, our 4 year olds go to Brightwaters Farms to go pumpkin picking. The North Lindenhurst Fire Department visits our school to teach about Fire Prevention. We also have a Halloween costume party. Students perform in a taste testing for Thanksgiving.

In the winter, children perform the Nativity play for parents. Santa visits our Christmas party. Dentists visit us for Dental Health Month. We also have a Valentine’s Day party.

In the spring, we have Zoo mobile day for the whole family (animals, pony rides, balloons, cotton candy, popcorn, juice and lots of fun are a part of this day.) In early June we visit the Lindenhurst Memorial Library. Photographers also visit us in the spring for spring pictures that you can purchase. St. Patrick’s Day party and Easter Egg Hunt also occur in the spring months!

Miss Beverly Meserole has been the director of the St. John's Nursery School since its beginning and after June she will be passing on the torch to Miss Melissa DeMayo.

While we have a few openings now, we advise registering your child early to guarantee a spot when they turn 3 years old (most parents have their children on our list by the time they turn 1).
